1/2/2024 0 Comments Mortal pingasThe second section of this chapter surveys the last hundred years of Dante studies, to trace the roots of the recent critical prejudice against non-poetic influences on the poet's work - ranging from liturgy, Christian doctrine and preaching - and hypothesizes its source in Benedetto Croce's seminal 1921 essay, "La poesia di Dante," which rejects the idea of a didactic and hortatory Dante in order to focus instead on the poet qua poet. The first part of this chapter shows how the Commedia's early reception practically takes for granted that the poem is a sort of sermon, and supporting evidence shows in detail how the poem and preaching share much of the same subject matter, and demonstrates how the poem and sermons answer generic and stylistic questions in much the same way. Chapter One, "Dante Praedicator? Introduction to an Understudied Rhetorical Mode in the Commedia," elaborates on the argument that Dante the poet oftentimes acts as a preacher, and shows how this claim opens up new lines of inquiry into the poet's textuality. "Starting from the premise that Dante takes influence from the sermons and preaching culture of his time in his construction of a voice of authority, this dissertation tracks the poet's use of sermonic material and rhetoric, as well as more explicit discussions on preaching through his entire corpus. The conclusion reached by the work is that the Comedy postulates a set of didactic rules in the plotline that are later absorbed by the narrator and are used to induce the reader to adopt a certain behaviour. The last chapter analyzes the dialogue between the narrator and reader and tries to demonstrate how it echoes the vocabulary, syntax and content of the lectures given by Virgil, Beatrice and the others. The first two chapters are dedicated to analyzing the pedagogic ideas and the behaviour of the teachers, with a special focus on the teachings of Virgil, while the third chapter discusses the structure of the lectures given by these teachers. "The interaction between teacher and student and the dialogue with the reader in the Divine Comedy" The aim of the present thesis is to study the interaction between teacher and student in the plotline of the Divine Comedy and to compare it with the dialogue with the reader that exists in the diegetic level. La conclusione raggiunta dal lavoro è che la Commedia postula un insieme di regole didattiche nella trama che vengono poi assorbite dal narratore e vengono utilizzati per indurre il lettore ad adottare un certo comportamento davanti al testo. L'ultimo capitolo analizza il dialogo tra il narratore e lettore, cercando di dimostrare come questra strategia testuale riecheggia il vocabolario, la sintassi e il contenuto delle lezioni tenute da Virgilio, Beatrice e gli altri. I primi due capitoli sono dedicati ad analizzare le idee pedagogiche ed il comportamento dei docenti, con un focus particolare sugli insegnamenti di Virgilio, mentre il terzo capitolo illustra la struttura delle lezioni tenute da questi docenti. Lo scopo di questa tesi è quello di studiare il rapporto tra docente e discente nella trama della Commedia e di confrontarlo con il dialogo con il lettore che esiste nel livello diegetico.
